Native Bluebells

Bluebellwoods-tnThe beautiful native bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) is a superb reason to take a walk in your local woods.

At the moment, the woods near where I live are carpeted with native bluebells, which I am excited to see, especially since there has been concern that the Spanish bluebell (Hycacinthoides hispanica) is invading.  It does not look as though the invading species has reached these woods yet and so we have neither the Spanish bluebell nor the hybrid here.

Red Admirals Migration

I love watching butterflies in the garden or when out and about on a walk.  I was really pleased to get this picture of a Red Admiral whilst walking in the New Forest a few months ago.  It is amazing to think that these fragile creatures make an epic journey each year to migrate to warmer climes.

A winters walk along the Thames with the Alders

The Thames River is not too far from where I live, a short drive down to the bottom of the A329M at Reading.  I learned to kayak here and have spent many a Sunday morning paddling up into Reading along the Kennet and Avon Canal or down river to Sonning lock or further.  I never tire of this stretch of the river so hence my walk today.

There is always lots to see, today the Alder trees caught my eye.

Nature gives us so much. If I asked what do you see in the this picture. What would you say? "A dead tree". "A woodland" or even "Nothing". Apart from the last answer you would be right.

But what do I see...... Well I see the head of a dog. Its long snout with its jaws open panting
